Have not started Insanity yet.....
Well, today would have been week 2 of Insanity if I had started it last week. Unfortunately, I had to put it off after dealing with a lot of family illness, in and out of the hospital. I also had to make an unexpected trip back home to see some family members that are not doing so well. Insanity is still in the picture but my family is first right noq. Workouts are still getting done but not at the intensity that I would like. I'm not a total slacker! :) What are you currently doing with your workouts?

Rest and Recovery....
How many rest days do you take a week? Rest days are important in any fitness routine. Below are just a few reasons of why you should have a day or two of rest and recovery.
1. Rest days help you to build a better balance between all areas of your life - home, work, school, etc.
2. A rest day helps you to have better overall performance.
3. Building in a rest day makes sure that you do not overtrain.
4. Rest days allow your muscles to repair, rebuild and strengthen.
Not all rest days have to be just sitting on the couch. When I take a rest day, I make it an "active" day of rest. I am still getting in some type of physical activity but it causes less stress on my body. Some ideas for active rest days - taking a walk, playing with the kids outside, completing a yoga or pilates session. Make sure that you are building in rest day to maximize your fitness journey!

No Cage Fitness or Tennis but Softball???
So, as you guys know, a couple of weeks ago I asked about doing something different with my fitness routine. I was looking at either taking Cage Fitness or Tennis. Unfortunately, neither one of those fit into my schedule with my son playing football. But instead of not doing anything, I am playing co-ed softball. The games are on Tuesday's which still interfere with football practice but I can make most of them because of the timing. I've calcuated that I can burn about 350-375 calories during that hour. I'm really excited about it since I haven't played in like 15+ years when my church back home use to play. I'll report back to let you guys know how the season goes! :)

Fit Phatty Jump Rope Challenge
This week Tiyona challenged us to jump rope for 10 mins every day. How many of you did that? I didn't do it every day but did it most days and let me tell you, I felt great afterwards. I even took a photo and shared with you guys. When ever I completed the challenge, I had my music going on in the background to keep me motivated. I switched up my jumps (ie - single, double, side to side, front and back) to not get bored. For each challenge, I completed the 10 mins at one time to build on my cardiovascular. Jumping rope can be hard but it's a great way to blast the fat. That's why I am going to continue with this challenge even after this week. Who is going to join me???

How I Did For The Week of 8/15
So, below are my goals from last week. I'm here to share how I did, so here goes......
1. Work out at least 5 times this week. I'm not currently following an actual program right now as I'm getting back into the groove.
Complete by 8/20
I was able to accomplish this goal. Even started back running last week, so I'm excited about that.
2. Complete a food diary at least 5 times this week. Knowing what you eat each day is a vital part to any weight loss journey.
Complete by 8/20
I was able to accomplish this goal. This was important since the few weeks prior I was eating whatever I wanted. I was able to get my eating habits under better control this week.
3. Spend time every day in prayer and devotion. I've learned over the last couple of months that when I begin my day with prayer and devotion, it's much easier to get through the day. Spending time with God is AWESOME!
Complete by 8/20
I was able to accomplish this goal. What a great way to start off my day! God is awesome and continues to bless me and my family!
4. Connect w/ my S2S teammates at least 3 times this week. This helps keep each other motivated and accountable.
Complete by 8/20
I was able to accomplish this goal. I know that my teammates are busy, but I wanted to let them know that I was thinking about them.
5. Read at least 10 pages of personal development every day.
Complete by 8/20
I did not accomplish this goal. This will be back on my goal list for this week. Personal development is very important when you want to better yourself and succeed.
6. Follow up with my Beachbody customers to make sure that I'm doing all they need from me as well as make sure that they are moving along their journey.
Complete by 8/20
I was able to accomplish this goal. It was great connecting with my customers and seeing what they are up to.
I have to say that I had a pretty good week. I definitely need to work on the personal development piece this week. Be on the look out tomorrow for my goals for the upcoming week.

Interval Training
Another beautiful day in the neighborhood! This morning I decided to switch my workouts and do my interval training in the AM and will do Max Recovery this evening. I completed 30 mins of interval training that included a variety of different exercises. I love interval training because it takes that boredom out of a workout and keeps you going throughout the entire time. Below is my after pic from the interval training. I still have Max Recovery to do which I'm really looking forward to...LOVE Insanity!

Bike Ride in Miami
Well today was my last day on vacation in Miami. Yesterday, I got up to go bike riding and I was moving slow, watching tv and when I headed outside, it was raining! UGH! I was so disappointed. It rained most of the day and by the time it stopped, I wasn't in the mood to go riding. This morning, I decided to get up bright and early so that I could get it in. I loved every bit it! The people that were on the beach exercising were so beautiful. There were so many people that were out there from diverse backgrounds. As I was riding my bike, I was just smiling looking at all the people out early not making any excuses. I'm so glad that I was able to get it in. I love Miami and can't wait to come back! :)

4th of July workout......
Well....I meant to type this blog yesterday but I was enjoying the day so much with family which is why you are getting this today. :) I hope that everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. Yesterday as part of my workout I was supposed to do P90x Chest/Shoulder/Tris and Cardio Abs. I was in somewhat of a funk but decided that I had to do something! So instead I decided to do 40 mins of interval training. I completed 2 different workouts. Can I tell you I was BEAT and dripping with SWEAT! Oh man. In the end, I was so glad that I ended up doing something. I'll make up my workout from yesterday in addition today's workout. Make sure y'all check on me to make sure that I'm still alive....LOL! Any who....be on the look out later today for my "How Did I Do" you tube video that'll be about my 4th of July weekend eating habits and workouts. You can find it at www.youtube.com/1fitmom4life. Have a great day!

5.16.11 Workout - First Day of TF/P90X hybrid
Today is a new day! I decided to switch things up a little bit after completing 10 weeks of Turbo Fire. I love the program, don't get me wrong but I love lifting heavy weights. So, with that being said, I had been comtemplating doing a TF/P90X hybrid. I love the energy and cardio in TF and think that the P90X weight portion will be the lifting that I need. So, today was Day 1 - Chest & Back. All those pulls up and push ups, I loved it! Exactly what I was looking for. I felt weird not having cardio on the schedule since I'm use to doing it every day, so I decided to add Cardio X. Man, I felt GREAT afterwards. Day 1 is in the bag and I'm looking forward to a mix of abs and cardio tomorrow. I also completed parts 1 & 2 of the Fit Phatty lower ab challenge. My abs felt awesome and can't wait to see where they land me in the next few weeks. :) If you would like to learn more about Fit Phatty or our Phat Camps, comment here or inbox me at phitmom4life@yahoo.com.

Results from 3 Shakeology Cleanse
Well, it's hard to believe that the 3 days of my Shakeology Cleanse are over. The days went by so quickly. I did have some temptations as I had family in town but stuck to what I wanted to accomplished. DRUM ROLL please....here are my results:
Starting weight - 152.4lbs / Ending weight - 146.4lbs / down 6lbs
Starting waist - 29.75in / Ending waist - 29.25in / down .5in
Starting hips - 38in / Ending hips - 37.25in / down .75in
A couple of things that I would like to reiterate about the cleanse:
1. Follow the program to a T and you will see amazing results.
2. You will have so much energy during the 3 days.
3. I was still able to workout while on the cleanse. I'm currently doing Turbo Fire.
4. Avoid any temptations. Don't have things in your kitchen that will make you tempted to mess up. Don't go to the grocery store where there's junk food, etc.
I'm so glad that I was able to share this journey with you. Continue to follow me as I'll be sharing my Turbo Fire transformation next.

Day 3 of Shakeology Cleanse
Well, today is the final day of my 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse. The last 2 days were a lot easier than I thought. While I was not tempted too much, I think that the easy way around that is to just stay away from the things that you like. I had to go grocery shopping and what do you see in the grocery store??? Every and anything that you don't need! LOL! Thank goodness I had my list and stuck to it.
Meals were great as usual - 2 cups of teas, 2 pieces of fruit, 3 shakes and a salad with white meat. The last couple of nights I did chicken but decided to do fish tonight - perch. It was so good. Even my husband complimented on how good it tasted.
Energy levels were awesome. I didn't feel tired in the least bit at any time. One of the things that amazes me is how, with the few calories that one takes in during the cleanse, your energy levels during the workouts are still great! I did TF HIIT 15 and Sculpt 30 and didn't miss a beat! LOVE, LOVE IT!
Well....tomorrow is results day. See you then!

Day 2 of Shakeology Cleanse
Well, I know it's actually not Day 2 but I'm posting for yesterday. I will then post my Day 3 tonight.
So.....yesterday was Day 2. Everything went well. I ate everything that I was supposed to - 3 shakes, 2 pieces of fruit, 2 cups of tea, a chicken salad and almost 4 liters of H2O. I did get tempted though. My sister and I went to the mall to spend some sibling time together. We went into one of the stores that had candy, snacks, etc. As we were walking around the store, I had to keep looking in the other direction. Twizzlers...Twix....Potato Chips....Cereal. "Oh, Nikki....come and buy us!" LOL! All of this was thrown right in my face. How was I going to react? Keep walking! I am so proud of myself for not indulging. I'm focused to do what I need to do.
People always ask - How did you feel? Were you full? Well I can tell you that I didn't have any headaches or stomach cramps from being hungry. I love the shakes because you can make them thick and they are so filling. Normally, an hour after I eat, I'm ready to grab a snack. Not with Shakeology baby! I also had plenty of energy throughout the day. No plateaus or feeling like I needed a nap.
Day 3 and results, HERE I COME!
